Biography
Dr. Shu-li Chen, associate professor at the University
Of Tennessee College Of Nursing, was born and raised in Taiwan.
She earned her BSN from the National Yang-Ming University, Taipei,
Taiwan in 1991. Dr. Chen completed her graduate studies at the
University of Utah, Salt Lake City where she earned a master's
degree in nursing administration in 1995 and a PhD degree in nursing
in 1997.
Dr. Chen’s clinical experienced include
AIDS patient care at an acute hospital and gerontological nursing
at long-term care facilities as staff nurse, team leader and nursing
supervisor. Dr. Chen has also worked as a research associate at
the University of Utah College of nursing for about two years.
In 1999, Dr. Chen joined the faculty at the University
of Tennessee. In concert with the mission of the college, her
job responsibilities involve teaching, conducting research, and
providing professional service to the college, the university,
and the community.
Dr. Chen has been responsible for classroom and
clinical teaching in both the undergraduate and master’s
programs. The courses she has taught most frequently focus on
research, leadership and nursing administration. Dr. Chen has
also developed several Internet based courses for both the University
of Tennessee at Knoxville and the University of Phoenix Online.
Dr. Chen has continued her research related to
health services in long-term care and has been the primary investigator
for two small-grant research studies. She is in the process of
publishing results of those two studies and has presented them
at conferences. These two studies follow her dissertation research
and other publications focused on long-term care issues. She is
increasingly sought out to consult with researchers with similar
research programs. As a result, she is currently the co-investigator
of two ongoing research studies concerning the aging population.
Dr. Chen has provided services to the university and the college
in a variety of ways. In serving the profession, she has concentrated
most of her efforts in participating in committee work for various
nursing organizations. She has also sought out service needs in
the local community.
